Cosy ideas for winter decorating your home

The weather outside may be frightful, but that doesn’t have to stop your home from decorating your home to create a warm haven to retreat to after a long day at work. Here are some tips and tricks to warm up your home this winter!

  1. During the hot summer months it’s all about paring down our homes to the bare minimum with open spaces and minimal accessories. Cozy up your home for winter by introducing soft textures such as wool, faux fur, cashmere and velvet.
  2. With the shorter days, it’s time to maximise what natural light is still available. Incorporate a large hanging mirror in your living area to reflect light throughout your space.
  3. Block out chilly winter drafts by layering window treatments. Consider adding textured curtains to large windows to soften your room and add warmth.
  4. Similar to winter fashion, winter decorating is all about layering fabrics. Add warmth to your living area by adding a few extra throws and pillows. Choose accent pillows in colours and patterns that match your existing decor to ensure you don’t have to make any more decor adjustments!
  5. Prepare your bedroom for winter by layering in textured bedding,  throws, and pillows. A luxurious throw and soft velvet pillows will turn your bedroom into a restful retreat.
  6. Adding a sheepskin will instantly bring warmth to any room in your home. Place a sheepskin rug beside your bed or toss one over an armchair to provide a toasty spot to read your book and sip a cup of tea.
  7. Although tiles and wood flooring create a sophisticated statement year round, you’ll need to cozy them up for the colder months. Adding a fluffy rug under the lounge in your living area will instantly add warmth and texture underfoot. For a unique style statement, consider layering one rug on top of another to add more visual interest!
