Kitchen design trends to kick off the year
More than a practical food preparation space, the kitchen can be seen as the home’s centrepiece, making a bold design statement.
Here are 6 of our top tips for creating an on-trend kitchen in 2024.
Benches
Stone benchtops, in particular, vein-cut granite, natural or composite lighter coloured stone and grey-based marble are being used to make strong statements in the kitchen again. This design element creates a high-class finish as we start to stray from the previously popular darker marble.
Colour
As we launch into the new year, we start to see more colour splashed around the Aussie kitchen. We will always have a place in our hearts for the use of white in the kitchen, however, if you want to create a more high-end feel in your home, colour can be utilised with far greater confidence this year.
Expect to see shades of black, navy and inky blue, balanced with natural lighting and timber tones to soften the aesthetic. You may even see softer pastel pinks and slate green tones used by confident interior designers.
Detailed island benches
Seen as the centrepiece of the kitchen, the island bench has been experimenting with different colours, textures and core materials over the past few years. We will see this more than ever before as this central element becomes more of a piece of art than a standard food preparation station. Through exploring curved stone edges, unique panelling, new angles, gravity-defying features and turned timber legs we are excited to see island benches evolve from the previously dominating waterfall island bench.
Backsplash
Bold coloured, marble and unique stone splashbacks can add a unique element of design to a kitchen. Expect to see more splashbacks matching their corresponding stone countertops, allowing for a more streamlined contemporary look.
Raw materials
Natural materials including timber and concrete continue to trend this year. Often used to help add texture to a kitchen, these elements add another element of design to a space. Whilst concrete adds a more industrial feel to a kitchen, wood can have the opposing effect creating a warmer atmosphere.
Clean, clever storage
2024 is the year of sleek clean lines and decluttered space. Through integrating hidden cabinetry storage including underneath your island bench the surroundings appear streamlined and allow for more bold design elements.
