Styling your home office ‘like a boss’

Cluttered spaces and dull colours will not enhance your productivity when working from your home office. With an increase in jobs offering flexible work arrangements, many are opting for the work-from-home option. It’s time to get the most out of your day (and office) by creating a space that you will feel good working in and encourage creativity!

Here are our styling tips to consider when setting up a home office.

The Desk

Probably one of the most important pieces of furniture in the room – your desk. This should be spacious, sturdy and situated in a position that will not cause any distractions. A desk is something you will have for a long time, choose a neutral colour to ensure it is adaptable with changing trends. Keep it clutter-free by coordinating your stationery with storage accessories and holders.

The Chair

If your desk isn’t the most important piece of furniture then your chair certainly is! This is something you will be sitting on for hours on end so ensure it is comfortable and fully supports your back. Choose a chair that you can adjust to the perfect position and set it to a height that allows both feet to lie flat on the floor. Like your desk, pick a chair that is simple and minimal in design.

The Décor

Stick to one styling idea – soft, natural colour schemes in blues and greens have known positive effects on mood and productivity, whilst bright colours such as yellow can boost innovation for the creative types.

Keep your office as uncluttered and streamlined as possible, include just a few things to bring colour. Hang inspiring artwork, paint a feature wall or display greenery such as potted plants to bring life to your space. Not only do indoor plants look great, but they have known effects on both your mood and productivity. Don’t forget items that address the senses as well such as scented candles and music.

No office is complete without the added touch of a cosy rug, especially during those cooler months. For larger open-plan spaces, perfectly zone off your office area with a rug under your chair and desk. For smaller offices, a round rug is a great feature that will add colour and fun to the space.

Whether your office is used for running a business, the occasional phone call or simply a spot to pay the bills make it a space you can feel happy in by adding a personal touch to it. Items could include books you love, travel posters and your family photos.
